“I say my homeland is New York, but I could be swayed to another side. I hear Vermont, California, and Louisiana are needing volunteers. I shall form the New York Volunteer Brigade and march for Democracy!”
– Brigadier General Brendan Murdoch Bevan Flynn
With the US crumbling around New York, one disgruntled National Guard Captain took it upon himself to form a brigade and use his men to restore what he thought was the rightful Democratic-Republic government. This man was Captain Brendan M.B. Flynn of the 7th Regiment, New York National Guard.
The formation was slow going, with only a handful of regiments defecting and joining this new Brigade, but once Vermont broke away and declared independence, Flynn took this as a sign and used this as a rallying point. The Minutemen of Vermont needed help, and Flynn was going to send the help.
With his small Brigade, Colonel Flynn marched from Albany New York into Vermont and joined up with the Minutemen. After all US Troops were removed from Vermont, Flynn went back to New York and started recruiting again. This time, more men joined. Regiments came from all over New York. Disgruntled National Guard, Army, New York Naval Militia, and citizens wanting to fight joined Colonel Flynn and marched back to their new headquarters in Montpelier.
With the brigade nearly doubled in size, Flynn was promoted to Brigadier General. Now they are ready to march once more, ready to help any republic in need and serve valiantly, with the promise of restoring the rightful government or holding on to their independence.
